PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
In difficult economic times, getting any project built is a major achievement. But redeveloping brownfield sites -- with their inherent technical and legal complexities -- can be difficult even in the best economic circumstances. For cash-strapped local and state governments, investing in brownfields can seem too great a financial burden for the return. As a result, in the past many redevelopable brownfield sites have been passed over as in favor of less complicated “greenfield” sites. However, there is increasing evidence that investing in brownfields may in fact be one of the most efficient public investments for communities and regions seeking to achieve sustainable growth.
JOIN US for an investigation of the relative costs and benefits of brownfield redevelopment. We will dig into the latest findings from Minnesota and around the country on the economic, fiscal, environmental and community impacts of redeveloping brownfields at the city, regional and state level. Expect to leave this event with a better understanding of why recycling and redeveloping Minnesota’s brownfields is critical to revitalizing communities and ensuring regional competitiveness.
